A Quick Little Kenzie Post!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend. It's amazing how quickly time flies by when you are not at work. I don't have too much to blog about but I do have some great pictures of Kenzie that I would like to share-

Kenzie has learned from her Mom that you point at things that you find interesting (in a book for example). She has taken that concept to the next level. She points at everything! When I walk in the door from work she points at me. When she wants to eat, she points at her food. We were finally lucky enough to catch a few shots of her pointing while walking today.
Pointing at a passerby....
And at a man playing the bagpipes in the Public Garden....
Kenzie's had her first tooth for awhile now but none of the grandparents have been able to see it on Skype. Fortunately Kenzie consented to a photograph of her tooth today. Here she is opening up wide...
For the grandparents, I enhanced the tooth!
Kenzie is obsessed with books. And she is not ok with the old books that she has had for awhile. She must have a steady stream of new books to stay happy! Here she is with her latest acquisition. (shhh...she doesn't need to know it's upside down)
Kenzie is really starting to learn how to get what she wants! I don't know how children learn to do these things but it is tough to stay strong sometimes. Here is Kenzie when she was not allowed to play with a power cord. Does she know how to work Dad already or what!?
With a little redirection we are happy again!
Kenzie really likes playing in a 'tent' that Mom makes for her. Here she is taking a peek from around the sheet.
I think the static electricity got to you again Kenzie!
And how about a few more smiles just because I can!

Even though we are a long way from home this Easter, it has been the best ever because of our sweet little girl!

Patriot's Day 2011

It has been a fantastic week to say the least. Today, April 18th we celebrate Patriots' Day, a civic holiday in Massachusetts and Maine (Maine was once part of Massachusetts).
Patriots' Day celebrates the first day of conflict between the American rebels and the British crown at the start of the American Revolution. Many are familiar with "the shot heard round the world"-Well this is where it happened!

We spent Sunday and Monday in Lexington where every year a reenactment of the day's events unfold. I took lots of pictures so I'll try to share some of the best.

Of course you know of Paul Revere's midnight ride. Here you can see him warning the local minutemen that the British regulars were on the way.
This statue commemorating the minutemen sits on the 'Battle Green' where the skirmish took place 235 years ago on April 19, 1775. It was here that Captain John Parker famously said, "Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon. But if they mean to have a war, let it begin here!"
The British regulars were marching under orders to confiscate Rebel munitions they believed were stored at Concorde. The Americans received advanced warning of this plan and were prepared to organize at a moments notice, thus the name 'minutemen'. The battle is reenacted every year on the battle green. Here you can see the British regulars advancing but none of my gunfire shots turned out due to my poor photographic skills.
The Colonial dead and wounded as the British advanced on to Concorde.

Kenzie was a good sport despite the musket fire....did I mention the event started at 5:00 AM?
The British regrouping....
We couldn't pass up the chance to have a pancake breakfast with some Red Coats. They were pretty nice despite their loyalty to King George III.
One of the beautiful colonial era homes in Lexington, now the Visitor's Center.
Between events Kenzie had to stop for a snack and a nap....
After the reenactment, the city held a parade. It was the best parade I've ever seen and Kenzie loved it-especially the bands. Here you can see a group of militia....
A couple of tanks...hey is that General Patton?
Look at the size of those horses standing alongside that man....Enough said!
I liked this float a lot...
There is something special about the bagpipes.
My favorite picture from the day! I'm proud of my little Patriot!

Genealogy research has really sparked my interest in cemeteries. We couldn't help but take a tour of the "Ye Old Burying Ground".
Many of these headstones mark the graves of men and women who lived during the Battle of Lexington. John Hancock's grandfather is buried here.
Look at this headstone. Notice the hourglass with wings...simply amazing.
The headstone belongs to a surgeon who attended the wounded Rebels after the Battle of Lexington.
Here's a great shot of Jen and Kenzie in Lexington....
and outside our hotel.
Earlier this week we got to have an evening picnic on the Boston Common. Here's Kenzie before heading out...
It was great to see signs of Spring and the ducks on the pond! Kenzie enjoyed playing in the grass...
and looking at a beautiful pair of Mallard ducks.

There are signs of life again in Boston!

There is only so much Revolutionary reenactment and parading that a little girl can handle. Despite the sound of horns, musket fire, and colonial bands, Kenzie decided that enough was enough.
And that was the end of our fantastic week! We had a great time celebrating the brave men that stood strong and gave our Country its first step toward freedom.

Maybe Spring is really here!!

We've had a great week. I am relieved to report that we are finally getting some warmer weather. We were able to get out and finally enjoy the city! This week I promise a little less talking and a lot more pictures. Let's get things started....
Why spend all that money on expensive toys when a plastic fruit container will do the trick?
Kenzie got a new friend this week. Pat the Bunny. I think she likes him!

I was in a gift shop this week and couldn't resist this little dress.

Now that is about as big as a grin can get!
We were not the only ones who took advantage of the great weather. The Faneuil Hall area was packed with tourists, street musicians and vendors.
Homemade waffle cones (both of these were for Jennifer of course!)
 A beautiful, curved stone entryway....
An old waterfront trade building converted to a restaurant-
Check out this hilarious sign for a pub downtown. I think it is self explanatory.
I like this shot a lot. It really is all about scale. You can see the nearly 300 year old 'Old State House' in the distance surrounded by the rest of the city. It's something to see.
Kenzie is crawling like crazy now so an entirely new element of busyness has entered our lives. She has also developed an obsession with our television remote. Here you can see a couple of clips of her getting frustrated and plowing through the rest of her toys (including the new 'Pat the Bunny' featured above) to get to the remote. I am thinking that maybe I will call Comcast and see if I can get another one for her!
I just love watching all of the little things that happen while Kenzie is growing up. She's very interested in detail and her dexterity is improving. Here's a short clip of her 'enjoying' some avacodo.
Here's a couple of great shots of Kenzie and Jen just before bedtime last night.

Here's to another great week of warmer weather!
