The week started with saying goodbye to future Aunt Ashley and Uncle Danny on Columbus day. We were sad to see them go but will get to see Uncle Danny again on Thanksgiving and Ashley on Christmas.
Early this week Kenzie had her 4 month appointment with Dr. Suarez. It was a great appointment except for one thing-SHOTS! From a physician standpoint it is so easy to just order these vaccines and injections without a lot of thought for the plight of patient/parent (because it is the right thing to do). However, it is a much more difficult experience when it is your child who is laughing and smiling and then suddenly starts screaming-it is just painful to watch! Anyway, Kenzie did great with the shots, no fever or irritability whatsoever. In fact, she was sleeping right after in the office.....notice the bandage.
We were quite impressed with Kenzie's growth. At four months she is 16 pounds and 25 3/4 inches long. That's about the size of an average 6 month old! We were wondering why she can't fit in any of her clothes!!
The best thing to come out of the appointment was the go-ahead to start solids. We found out that there is really no science to the whole process and much of it is just trial and error. Here you can see Kenzie's suspicous response to an unusual substance in her mouth.
Thinking......
Still contemplating......
I think we like it!
Wednesday morning I began a new fellow block at a new training site. I am now taking care of Geriatric patients hosptitalized at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. This hospital was formed by the merger of Beth Israel Hospital and New England Deaconess in 1996. It serves as one of the major teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School.
For those in the medical field, the Beth Israel Hospital served as the setting for the famous (and controversial) book 'House of God' by Samuel Shem. So far it has been an excellent experience and I have really learned a lot about Geriatrics.
Many of you are probably wondering about our other child, Roman aka 'Son'. While he is adjusting well to being an older brother, he doesn't get half of the attention that he once did. He still managed to get into the fall spirit (and a basket that is way to small for him).
Kenzie got a little surprise in the mail this week. We like to go for walks and we are always folding out the stroller top so the sun won't be in her eyes. She doesn't really like it because she wants to see everything that is going on around her. Our solution can be seen below. Hasta la vista, baby!
Our first day with Honey and Pops started with the investigation of Chinatown. Here you can see a few pics from the area.
The gate at the main entrance.
One of the interesting streets.
The Cmart-a very interesting Chinese market with so many interesting fruits and vegetables.
You can get all sorts of interesting seafood (including snails!)
More interesting Chinese fare.....
Pops blends in well with the locals in the Chinese market, doesn't he?
Our lunch at Pho Pasteur today....
Enjoying Pho Pasteur together
It is amazing what a difference a year can make. I would like to take a moment to celebrate one of the most exciting days of my life. One year ago this week, we found out that we would be having our Kenzie! Has it only been a year? Here you can see a photo taken moments after we got our big surprise...and the proof is in my hand! That is a look of excitement mixed with extreme fear!
Thought I would end with one of my favorite things, story time. What a great way to end the day (and a blog post).
Until next week,
Ashley
Love the post! Keep 'em coming! Amazing how EVERYTHING can change in just 365 days, huh?! :0)
